What are you doing this weekend? The answer is in our Hotspot section, where every Thursday, we share favourite spots to sip a cocktail, grab a bite and, come morning, brunch that pesky hangover away. See you there!
🍸Welcome to the Jungle
A dreamy oasis awaits on Duluth Street right near St-Laurent. We’re talking well-balanced, fruity cocktails and delicious dumplings served in a plush atmosphere complete with funky soundtrack. Craving an unpretentious yet chic night out? Bar Suzanne is for you.
Where to start? How about the rabbit, duck or bamboo filled dumplings. Oh—and the delicious bavette drizzled with lobster bisque, the oysters, and the octopus. But food is just the appetizer to the epic cocktail list…
The very pink Miss Baker (pisco, Aperol, raspberry, lime, apple cider) is irresistible and sweet. The Whisky Cobbler (bourbon, maraschino, orange) is just bitter enough. And if you feel like having a beer—it happens to the best of us every so often—there are 12 to choose from. We have to say that the bartenders are generous and always happy to mix up whatever your heart desires, too.
Perfect for a date night or a gabfest with your bestie, keep Bar Suzanne on your radar for a laid-back night on the town.

🍴At Rosie’s, You’re Family
Bistro Rosie does things a little bit differently. Think of it as a choose-your-own-dinner-adventure featuring 2, 3, or 4 courses (for $40, $50 or $60, respectively). Options are written out on a blackboard hung above the kitchen and organized by appetizers, mains and desserts. (And yes, you can choose to have an all-dessert meal if your sweet tooth so desires.)
You’ll usually find a fish and seafood-centric offering, as the chef prefers them to meat, plus plenty of unique flavour profiles (think lots of fruit). It’s tough to recommend a particular dish because things change weekly—even more often if the chef gets his way!
Bistro Rosie’s owners are also keen on creating a community around food and engaging local producers in the menu-developing process. Bottom line? You’ll want to check out this new Rosemont spot sooner rather than later—it’s that good.
🥓It’s Always Brunch O’Clock
Le Vieux Saint-Laurent is more than yet another deli on Montreal’s Main. It’s an institution all about tradition. With its cantine vibes and plasticized menu, it’s the kind of place where you can keep your sunglasses on while you eat brunch and not be judged… or almost.
Waiters buzz around tables filling coffee mugs (the coffee is actually really good) and serving heaping plates. We’re hungry just thinking about them! The staff is super welcoming and the restaurant’s everyone-is-family-and-on-weekends-we-wear-sweatpants ambiance is perfect. The hollandaise sauce is flawless and the fruit is fresh—that means no sad dried orange or wilted lettuce on your plate. They’re not reinventing brunch, but they are executing classics perfectly.
